As part of the development of the MRE (Marine Renewable Energy) sector, the Bretagne Region has planned an ambitious project for a quay and polder dedicated to the manufacture and transport of offshore wind turbines in the port of Brest.

The contract for reinforcement by inclusions was won by the Balineau / VCMF consortium. It consisted of installing 24 to 28 m long HEB 240 type profiles by vibro-driving and ramming.

The inclusions, numbering 1146 U, were first lowered with a vibrator into the hydraulic fill and the sandy-vastile alluvium, then by ramming with a hydraulic hammer into the schistose bedrock, altered at the top. A ramming criterion, depending on the load to be taken up in the final phase, had been defined beforehand and verified by a series of tests.

The project was carried out under a strong constraint of time, the works being conditionning the completion of the main quay, and also by the exiguity of the site, in interface with other parts of the structure.

Location
